“Political turmoils affect our bodies”

Anastasia Ryabova (born 1985, Moscow) is an artist who makes drawings and actions. She is an educator and researcher, initiator of exhibitions, publishing and educational projects, author of critical essays on art, cinema and architecture. Ryabova will present works, made between 2008 and 2022, together with a short timeline of political events in this period.

Ryabova is interested in the the invisible structures ruling human behavior, such as laws, moral attitudes, economic and social hierarchies, cultural codes and other conventions. Her work can be seen as a continuation of the tradition of 1970s Moscow Conceptualists (such as the group ״Collective Actions״), and Moscow Actionism. 

One of her most well known ventures is the co-founded Night Movement (2015-), ״an engine of collective activities, which manifest themselves mainly at the Night”. Night Movement perfomed actions such as Overnight at the Police Station (2017), Night Without Movement (2017) and Nightfall (2018), and includes today more than 2000 members worldwide.
